In my late 20's I rediscovered an interest I had as a child in photography. Now those pictures I took as a child were nothing to write home about but I remember how much I enjoyed taking them. I even entered a few into a 4-H Photography Contest. But in the 5th grade I began to channel my creative energy into music. I learned to play the trumpet and then the french horn, I wrote really bad song lyrics, I learned about different genre's of music and I listened to music all.the.time. Most of my friends were musicians. Music consumed much of my life. I even studied music for 2 years in college. But then I reached a point when I was ready to step away from it.
In my late 20's my sister was expecting her baby boy, my nephew. She wanted me in the delivery room and I wanted to be able to take good pictures of those first moments of my nephew's life. I bought a new, decent point and shoot with money I was given for my birthday. I loved the way the camera felt in my hands. I loved the new perspective the camera gave me. I loved the way the world looked through the lens. And a decade later I still do.
Photography is more than just a way for me to capture memories or express myself creatively. It is a never ending learning process. It is an opportunity to look at the world from a new, fresh perspective. It's an opportunity to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. God has filled this world with beauty and I am drawn in a way words can't really explain to capture it.
Each Thursday I will share a photo offering a glimpse at my world through the lens. I hope you will join me. If you would like to be a part of Through The Lens Thursday, leave your link below. Please link directly to your post and not to your homepage. Also, please link to Life In Focus in your post. Please keep links family friendly. Thank you.
